The Mock Elections

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a bit of a Facebook addict. I bloody love it and can usually waste hours of my life trawling through the crap on there. But the closer we have got to the elections and the recent terror attacks through Europe and the Middle East, the more I see the worst in the people on there.

To me politics and religion are alike, they shouldn’t  be discussed in depth on social media.

Everyone has had a different life journey and because of that their priorities and their core values can vary. I dont think its acceptable to ram it down one another’s throats as to why you are right and they are wrong with their choices. We are all individuals with our choices.

Now dont get me wrong,  Im all up for a bit of a friendly debate and I do like to play devils advocate to get people’s brains going and get them to see things from others points of view, but that doesnt make what I say right, the same as it doesnt make the  argument firing back any more right. It can be a bit like poking an ants nest with some of them out there.

My news feed these last few weeks have been filled with aggression and venom with the likes of Tommy Robinson spitting out his poison and shares from gutter trash newspapers producing figures and statistics based on an era when we relied on pit ponies to help produce our energy. Apart from the odd bit of humour I’ve shared there seems to be very little evidence of any of the posts being based on facts. People should be researching their shares, it should be all about education.

And its education that has caused me the biggest worry this week.

My children are holding a Mock Election at their school today.

In fact my daughter has skipped in 30 minutes early so she can help collect the ballot papers and count in the vote. As a mum I couldn’t be prouder of her taking a genuine interest in this.

At dinner last night I was asking her questions about the process, where they were gathering their information and who was the representative for each party.

Apparently the teachers have sorted the classes into who represents who, then the kids are having to research their policies and present an argument to their classmates in a question time styled debate.

The kids then meant to vote on the party that has the best policies.

“The really naughty boys who are always in trouble are representing the UK Independence party. The teachers said that we should all be uniting if we want a better future for the world not segregating ourselves from Europe, so I wont be voting for them” my daughter announces, “and the really bitchy girls that always cause trouble, they are the Conservatives”

“So who will you be voting for?” I ask.

“Well it wont be the Conservatives now! Ill probably vote for the Green Party as I like the kids in that party”

Now dont get me wrong, I know it is all a process used to teach them the importance of voting and that school is really all just a great big popularity contest at this age, but I cant help think the teachers are being a little underhanded.

They should be impartial and this whole exercise should be showing the kids the process of researching the parties policies and not influencing the vote.

It has been no secret who the majority of the teachers at the school are not backing. They have been seeking support from  parents for months regarding the lack of funding per child of schools in the South compared to the rest of the country in their Worthless campaign, a deficit which has been caused by the current government. Our headmaster has made various trips to 10 Downing Street handing in petitions seeking change.

But I am cross that the kids are being brainwashed. They are already encouraged to follow a  specific religion at the school and now they are being manipulated with politics. These are 2 things that I strongly believe schools should remain neutral in. They should just be teaching our kids the acceptance of other people’s beliefs and values even when they are not your own.

But Im not surprised Bunnies voting Green Party, Shes always been a bit of an earth mother
