Sofa shopping

So we shopped for a new sofa in the sales.

It was just a replacement for the one we’ve got.

Theres nothing wrong with the leather of the one there. But it’s sagging in the middle, it’s a bit more lumpy and not like it used to be.

It feels familiar.

It was just the 2 of us and I figured it would be an easy day.

Oh how wrong could I be.

Who knew sofa shopping would be such an emotional rollercoaster?

We sat on no less than 50 sofas. Over a period of 5 hours no. But that wasn’t why it was such a draining day.

So the current sofa is a 3 seater. That’s what we’re getting right?

But why do we need 3 seaters?

The kids are off to uni soon, it’ll be just you and me. Our days of huddling under the duvet and watching crap are over. They’re going to be off doing their own thing.

Watching movies now?

They’re always off doing their own thing. Do they ever really want to be sitting down with us? (And what he means is “with you”)

But I’m not sure I’m ready for that.

I was lucky, with lockdown my girl changed her options. I got her home for 1 more year of finishing her A levels.

And the boy’s doing good with his subjects. I couldn’t be prouder of either of them.

They have amazing futures ahead.

But is it just a bit too soon?

And I can see they’re they’re ready to go out and do their own thing.

But are they really ready to survive without me?

I mean, I taught them to cook, to wash their clothes (even not mixing colours and whites) and change their bedding too. Personal hygiene and not sleeping in your clothes is a working progress some days but they’re pretty savvy in the self survival.

But I worry are they street smart?

Can they go out in the big wide world and make it home each night?

Can they stand their ground when the bastards try to bring them down?

And can they keep remembering they’ve got 1001 reasons to smile without me checking in every 5 mins telling them it’ll be alright??

I’m not even going to mention the part of sofa shopping where the recliner option comes into play.

And how we could end up resemble the couple who meet in space from WALL.E? …. if that’s what we’re buying?

I mean, I want a recliner….but am really ready for a recliner? …..

So maybe there’s just nothing wrong with our old saggy sofa? I can relate to the old saggy sofa. It feels like home.
