Finally this week I had some time where my energy levels picked up, I had the downstairs to myself (thank heavens for the Xbox at half term!) And I had the brain space to ignore all the things I thought I needed to do and decided to do something just for me.
I broke out my sewing machine, chose one of the ninety billion fun fabrics I’ve been hoarding over the last few weeks and made myself a swing skirt.
I chose a very simple design and made it by eye rather than trying to get my brain to concentrate on a pattern.
Rather impressed myself! It only took a couple of hours! Get me!!
Once I was finished I was so chuffed with my skirt I decided to use some of the remaining fabric to make one for my daughter. (she’s been going on about having a swing skirt for week)
So now we have matching outfits.
Knowing my girl is 13 and the grunts could kick in at any moment I made a conscious decision to avoid wearing my new skirt any day that she is or in places that it might get recognised by her friends but she’s having none of it!
She is insisting on dressing identically to me regardless of who might see us!
Now I know I should be very flattered, but I also find it a little weird! What 13 year old wants to be seen with their parents, let alone dress like them?
I feel like we are becoming the Von Trapps and unlike her, I can’t sing for toffee!!
What do you think?
Having a mini me a good thing?
Or is she taking this role model thing a step too far?
Let me know your thoughts x
