I am a massive fan of a brand of shoes called Irregular Choice!
They are absolutely amazing and come up with all sorts of quirky and unusual designs.
I love them so much I have bought a number of pairs (and no my husband doesn’t know exactly how many and it’s staying like that!)
For the past couple of months I have been coveting a pair of their Red Ban Joe’s and saving every penny I can to be able to afford them. I was only about 2 week away from being able to buy them and guess what?? They’re out of stock!! And the only pair I could find in my size were on Evil bay and the price had jumped from £80 to £220!!! No way I could justify that!
I had so many pretty outfits in my cupboard that I have been waiting to wear with them that I nearly cried.
Anyway I decided I must own a pair of red shiny shoes, so I’ve made my own!
I started with a very boring pair of black leather shoes that I found in the local charity shop for £3
I covered the soles with masking tape to help control where the glue ended up with my shaky hands.
I coated them with a thin layer of Mod Podge and sprinkled on a generous amount of red glitter.
(just for the record that stuff gets everywhere!!)
Once dried I applied a second coat of Mod Podge to seal the glitter.
As a final layer of protection I coated in a thin layer of Rust-oleum polyurethane clear varnish spray, not that I’ll ever be wearing these beauties out in the rain!
The edges of the glitter where a little rough and ready to using my trusty fine nozzle glue gun I added a 3mm red velvet trim.
Lumps of glue were trimmed with a scalpel once my hands stopped shaking.
Finally I made a diamante clasp bow trimmed in the red velvet.
Rather impressed with how they turned out if I’m honest……but I’m still buying a pair of the real McCoys when they come back in stock!! After all, a girl can never have too many ruby slippers right?
