One of the biggest standouts in Czechia is the amount of gold you see. Roadside Saints and crosses shimmer in the sun. The buildings are dusted liberally with golden symbols that long ago marked ownership of the families that resided. And the churches? You have never seen such opulence. The most flamboyant of these was St Nicolas Church. I am so grateful to have seen this church first hand as photos cannot do justice to the yellow glow of metal that covered almost every Saint, cherub and effigy. Standing above looking down from the organ gallery you almost needed sunglasses … Continue reading “The City of Gold”

Oh Prague! What a city
Due to the issues of mobility within our group and the fact that we had still not recovered from our sleepless journey, we decided we would best experience the city by vehicle. In Old Town Square there were various ticket touts advertising bus tours at various price points, but with the money we had saved on our apartments we opted for the private tour in an open top car. And oh what a luxury. JJ our tour guide was amazing. The most friendly lady with an absolute stack of knowledge in her head. She told us everything we needed to … Continue reading “Oh Prague! The Alchemist’s Clock
The first stop on our whistle-stop tour was Prague. We made our way to Old Town Square on a hunt for fresh coffee and breakfast. ( We’re fast learning that none of us survive very well first thing without at least 3 cups,!) Our table gave us prime viewing to The Alchemist Clock. It’s a thing of beauty to behold! I had previously seen it on the Netflix series Lore. A tale of how anyone who worked on the clock met with an untimely death. But so see it with my own eyes was joyous. The beauty of this clock … Continue reading “The Alchemist’s Clock”
Fine dining and foreign language
I feel surprisingly alive today. After travelling 800 miles by road, plus the ferry in just 18 hrs with a grand total of 52 mins sleep, it’s quite a surprise. The first stop on our journey is Prague. And wow what a city! We are all in agreeance that we are here to experience the new cultures, so whilst our first meal of the trip may have been a McDonald’s ( it was 6am, we needed coffee and I did choose the chicken breakfast) we are all going for authentic local cuisine. Being the foreigner in a strange country, I … Continue reading “Fine dining and foreign language”
Travel Anxiety
Most people, when they’re off on holiday, are excited. Not me. It would seem for this trip I’m riddled with anxiety. I didn’t recognise it at first, but on my 10th or 12th time of unpacking and repacking my suitcase, it dawned on me that’s what it was. But stupidly each time I packed and repacked I didn’t downsize what I’m taking. And considering that each member of the road trip was under strict instructions to pack light. A memo I obviously failed to digest. As always anxiety is a complex mixture of different pots being stirred together resulting in … Continue reading “Travel Anxiety”
I’m going to Europe baby!!
Its only 5 days before we travel. Ahead of us are 14 days in a car, traveling 3000 miles to visit places in Europe. Places I recognise the names of, but never thought I’d actually see. Everything is placed in my suitcase ready to pack. My nails are done, my daughter is dying my hair tonight and I’ve booked in at the beauticians for a quick tidy of my eyebrows before I go. There will obviously be the requirement for personal grooming too as I’ve not had to wear shorts for almost 3 years!!! Break out the hedge trimmers! The … Continue reading “I’m going to Europe baby!!”
